TOPS PRESENTS 500 U.S. CANTONS TO 3 LOCAL VETERANS IN 2ND CHAPTER OF STARS FOR OUR TROOPS PROGRAM

What: 500 cantons will be presented to three United States Veterans (Casey Bukowski - World War 2 Veteran and POW, Dick Remmele - Korean War Veteran, and Dan Quigley - Vietnam War Veteran) at Top’s Headquarters as part of the Tops Stars for Our Troops program. From there the police and Patriot Guard will escort the Veterans, members of the Tops team, and the president of Buffalo Niagara Honor Flight, Tom Petrie, to Colvin Cleaners, located at 2375 Elmwood Ave, Kenmore, NY where the flags will be presented to Christopher Billoni and owner, Paul Billoni, for proper laundering before Tops begins its third phase of the Stars for the Troops program next week.

During phase three of the program, which will take place on September 10, 2019 from 3:00-8:00pm again at Tops headquarters, over 50 volunteers from both Tops and Buffalo Niagara Honor Flight will remove the stars which will later be packaged and presented along with the message below to Veterans in nursing homes, hospitals, and on Honor Flight Missions. "I am part of our American flag that has flown over the USA. I can no longer fly. The sun and winds caused me to become tattered and torn. Please carry me as a reminder that You are not forgotten.

When: TOMORROW, TUESDAY, SEPTEMBER 3, 2O19 12 NOON

Where: 1760 Wehrle Drive, Williamsville, NY

Why: “The respect and gratitude we have for the people who serve and have served in the military is immeasurable, and for that we are forever grateful,” said Kathy Sautter, public and media relations manager for Tops. “This program all began with the inspiration of simply collecting worn and tattered US Flags for proper retirement around Flag Day and has blossomed into so much more. Tops wanted to offer the community this service to not only properly retire their flags, but also know they are in some small way extending their thanks and respect to a Veteran through Stars for Our Troops.”
