Every bag purchased will make a difference!

WILLIAMSVILLE, N.Y. – Today, Tops Friendly Markets announced that it has launched its Tops Totes for Change program which will benefit non-profit organizations across the chains three state imprint. Shoppers can purchase a reusable bag with a special charity design for just $1.99 with $1 of the proceeds being donated back to your community's local organization. The four charities benefitting from the Tops Totes for Change campaign are JDRF (Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation), United Way, Feed America, and Children’s Miracle Network. Within those organizations the funds will benefit area local chapters including Children’s Hospitals and area Food Banks.

As a loyal supporter of JDRF for over 25 years, Tops Totes for Change program will continue to support important research and development programs needed to help turn Type 1 into type none.

“Tops Friendly Markets has been a supporter of JDRF for well over 25 years and this new campaign, Tops Totes for Change, is just one more way that they are helping to improve the quality of life for those living in Western New York and we are very grateful for their support,” said Karen Swierski, executive director, Western New York Chapter, JDRF.

“This program not only benefits our charitable partners, but our environment as well,” said Kathy Sautter, public and media relations manager for Top. At Tops, social responsibility and sustainability have always been at the core of the company’s mission, upholding standards that ensure it reduces environmental waste and energy consumption while providing its customers with sustainably sourced, high-quality products.

Tara Ellis of FeedMore WNY agrees. “Not only is Tops Totes for Change a great way to give back to those in need, but it helps preserve the environment as well,” Tara A. Ellis, president and CEO of FeedMore WNY, said. “We are grateful to our friends and longtime partners at Tops Friendly Markets for supporting FeedMore WNY and other local charity organizations through this wonderful initiative. We encourage our community members to purchase a Tote for Change while shopping at Tops.”

In an effort to better the lives of children and combat disease, Tops has supported children's hospitals with donations totaling more than $10.2 million dollars. Tops Totes for Change will allow the community to give back to area Children’s Hospitals throughout its service area in Western New York.

“On behalf of the 62 kids per minute who enter a CMN Hospital, we’re honored and excited to be part of Tops Friendly Market’s announcement of reusable shopping bags for non-profits,” said Kristen McCloy, director of partnerships at Children’s Miracle Network Hospitals. “Not only does this alignment uphold their role and belief in reducing the use of plastic bags, but also supports the local children’s hospitals where both shoppers and associates live and work. It’s a win – win.”

"We are thrilled to be included in the Tops Totes for Change campaign," said Michael Weiner, President and CEO, United Way of Buffalo & Erie County. "Donations received from the purchase of a United Way tote bag will allow us to continue to fight for the health, education, and financial stability of every person in Buffalo and Erie County. We commend Tops Markets on their commitment to the environment and our local community."
