TOPS RETIRES 3,000 FLAGS DURING RETIREMENT CEREMONY PRESENTS STARS TO VETERANS DEPARTING ON BNHF
Culmination Program Highlights Impact on Area Veterans

What: Tops Friendly Markets launched its Stars for Our Troops program in June welcoming the community to donate their worn and tattered flags at 33 Tops locations across its three state imprint from June 9-22. In just three weeks over 3,000 flags were collected! From there the cantons from 500 embroidered flags were removed and laundered (thanks to a partnership with Colvin Cleaners), the stars were properly removed, and lastly, thanks to the help of volunteers from People Inc., the stars were packaged and will now be presented to first responders and Veterans in VA Hospitals, nursing homes, and on Honor Flight Missions.

The first presentation of stars will take place during a flag retirement ceremony of 3,000 flags on Saturday, October 12, 2019 at the Made in America Store where 57 Veterans are preparing for their Honor Flight Mission to Washington D.C. The stars being presented are accompanied with the saying:

"I am part of our American flag that has flown over the USA. I can no longer fly. The sun and winds caused me to become tattered and torn. Please carry me as a reminder that You are not forgotten.
