Williamsville, NY  Tops Markets announced today that its Tops International store, located at 3980 Maple Road, Amherst, will undergo a multi-million dollar remodeling. The fourteen-year old store will reopen in late spring/early summer with the format of its newest prototype.

Remodel of Maple-Bailey to Begin The current Maple-Bailey store will close to customers on January 8, 2005. The renovation is forecasted to take several months, with the newly remodeled store reopening planned for late spring or early summer.

Prior to the store closing, Tops will keep shelves well stocked so customers will feel little if any inconvenience prior to closing. The usual empty shelves customers experience prior to a store closing simply wont happen at this location, stated Max Henderson, executive vice president and general manager for the chain. We are committed to making sure our customers experience the best in product variety and service up until the day we close.

Associates to Remain on Payroll/New Jobs Created Throughout the remodeling phase, the current 205 Maple-Bailey Tops associates will remain on the payroll as they are deployed to work temporarily in nearby stores. Once the remodeled store opens, an additional 70 - 100 employees will be hired in newly created positions.

Tops to Continue Services

Pharmacy: The pharmacy will remain open and on premises as it relocates to a temporary location on site. Pharmacy hours will remain: 9:00 a.m. to 8:00 p.m., Monday  Friday, and 9:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. on Saturday and Sunday.

Kosher Deli: In addition, the kosher deli will move to Tops Transit and Maple store at 2309 Maple Road temporarily in order to continue service to customers who desire Kosher products. Rabbi Nissan Berg will continue to operate the deli in its temporary location.

Cooking School: Tops Amherst Cooking School location will be closed until the store reopens. Classes will continue to be offered at the Tops West Seneca Cooking School located at 355 Orchard Park Road.

KeyBank: The KeyBank branch currently located inside the store will also be relocated to a temporary facility on the premises to continue to service their customers.

Servicing Customers In an effort to assist customers through the transition, core customers located in the Boulevard Towers will be offered shuttle services to other nearby Tops locations. It is our goal to make things as easy as possible for our customers while we work to bring them a beautiful new store, stated Henderson.

New Store Features The remodeled store will feature an expanded version of the prototype opened this past July in North Tonawanda. The 122,000-sq. ft. store will bring a new level of product variety and service to Amherst. The stores new, upscale interior décor package will feature a store within a store concept in many departments. Bakery, Deli, Meat, Seafood, Pet and Baby departments will all be easily identifiable with distinct looks and offerings.

The store will retain its fresh, bright looks, but will also be warm and inviting with many unique fixtures and décor treatments. Brass touches, awnings, prominent signage and a variety of floor surfaces will help to emphasize various departments.

The new Tops will feature an expanded product mix, particularly in the perishable areas. Customers will find a Bakery and Deli, each with their own hearth ovens, Seafood, Meat and Produce departments, along with a Chinese kitchen and salad bar.
