December 22, 2004 Buffalo, NY Due to an overwhelming show of support by Tops customers throughout Western New York, the Tops Markets Hope for the Holidays Program will donate over $135,000 to The Food Bank of Western New York and local Salvation Army. The donation will be used for food, warm clothing and toys for low-income families in Erie, Niagara, Cattaraugus and Chautauqua Counties who would otherwise go without at this time of year. This is the program's fourth year and the generosity of our customers never ceases to amaze us," stated Karl Oesterle, Senior Community Relations Manager. Last year Hope for the Holidays raised $170,000, but this year it exceeded projections by raising a total of $226,000 in all of its markets. Sponsored by Tops Markets, Hope for the Holidays is an annual three-week program that ran this year from November 14th to December 4th, to help brighten the holidays for needy families. In addition to the Hope for the Holidays donation, Tops donated an additional $21,700 to the Food Bank of Western New York during the holiday season.
