Tops Array of Fat Tuesday Delicacies Delight

Williamsville, N.Y. – No matter what you call it; Fat Tuesday, Mardi Gras (which is actually French for Fat Tuesday), or Shrove Day (an English term which derived from Shrovetide) – it’s a day for feasting on all things indulgent and it’s just a week away! Are you ready to celebrate?

Many use the Lenten season as a time to reflect, remember, and even give up delectable foods over the course of 40 days and nights, so Fat Tuesday is the perfect time to relish in all things delicious. In Pennsylvania Dutch country where there lies a large German population, February 16 is also known as Fastnatcht Day. During Lent when families were trying to empty their pantries of ingredients like lard, fat, sugar, and butter, they made Fasnachts, which were an item traditionally fasted from during the Lenten season. At Tops we have you covered with baked fresh daily Fastnachts 6 packs or Paczki 4-packs (a Polish tradition for Fat Tuesday) for just 2 for $7. Pick them up for your co-workers, family members, or surprise your next door neighbor with these sweet treats.

And don’t forget the King Cake! Believed to have originated in France around the 12th century early Europeans celebrated the coming of the three wise men bearing gifts twelve days after Christmas calling it the Feast of the epiphany, Twelfth Night, or King's Day. While there are many traditions surrounding the good fortune bestowed upon you if your slice contained a hidden coin, plastic baby doll (symbolizing the Christ Child), bean, or pea you’ll find King Cakes baked fresh daily at Tops filled with real fruit filling and decorated in the traditional Mardi Gras colors; gold (for power), green (for faith) and purple (for justice). ###
