"Through Tops contributions, we were able to provide 116,442 meals to those neighbors in need."

WILLIAMSVILLE, N.Y. – Tops is committed to helping end hunger in its local communities and is proud to support its partners like FeedMore WNY, Second Harvest Food Bank of Northwest Pennsylvania, Foodlink, Food Bank of Central New York, and five additional Food Banks across New York, Pennsylvania, and Vermont.

It goes without saying that these worthwhile organizations have been impacted beyond measure more so than ever during the pandemic and are incredibly grateful for the tremendous support of both the holiday Food for Families and Check Out Hunger campaigns conducted by Tops and that is why we are proud to announce that we have surpassed our goal and are helping provide more 3.25 million meals! This significant contribution continues to impact hundreds of thousands of families across Tops’ three state footprint as donations continue to be delivered to local Food Banks.

“The Second Harvest Food Bank of Northwest Pennsylvania received a total of $26,714, in 2020 from both the Tops Markets ‘Food for Families,’ and ‘Check Out Hunger’ campaigns. These funds have been crucial to our emergency relief efforts,” said Karen Seggi, CEO of Second Harvest. “Second Harvest has served more than 12,000 new families since the start of the pandemic, and through Tops Markets contributions, we were able to provide 116,442 meals to those neighbors in need.”

Even before the pandemic hit, according to the U.S. Department of Agriculture, an estimated 13.7 million homes or 10.5% of all homes in the United States experienced food insecurity at some point during 2019. That equates to more than 35 million Americans uncertain where their next meal might come from. And it hasn’t slowed down. As a matter of fact, many of the participating food banks that have benefitted from Tops efforts have indicated that the need was up more than 40%.
