Buffalo, NY - Tops Markets announced today the appointment of a new regional vice president, Dennis Hanley, for its Northeast Ohio region. Under Hanleys leadership the chain, which operates 49 stores in Northeast Ohio, will be making a series of operational changes designed to strengthen Tops market position in Northeast Ohio.

It is essential for Tops to change processes and capitalize on efficiencies in order to remain competitive in the market, stated Hanley. While some of the steps we take are painful in the short-term, they will help us to preserve jobs and grow our business in the future.

Tops is opting not to renew the leases on two small, aging facilities, one in Solon and the other on Clark Avenue in the City of Cleveland. Closing dates have yet to be determined for the two stores.

In addition, Tops has finalized plans to convert to a new meat program that offers customers pre-packaged meat in all 49 of its Ohio stores. Discussions surrounding the transition have taken place over the past several weeks with Local 880.

Lastly, Tops will be moving to a more efficient process in its bakeries as the result of a new contract with local Orlando Bakery.

The three major changes will result in the elimination of approximately 400 positions. Both the meat and bakery initiatives will be rolled out within the next few weeks.

Hanley comes to Tops with an extensive background in retail. He has either worked as a consultant or directly for a variety of companies including Safeway, Kash N Karry Food Stores, Super Kmart Super Centers, Farm Fresh and Winn-Dixie Stores.

Hanley, who has a B.S. degree in Business Marketing from San Jose State University, resides in Cleveland with his wife and two children.
