Carlisle, PA - Giant Food Stores opened the doors of its brand new 112,000 square foot Martin's Super Food Store at 8:00 a.m. today. The new store, located at 3980 Maple Road in Amherst held a ribbon cutting ceremony with store officials, local dignitaries and band members from Sweet Home Middle School, neighbors of the new store.

The store's bright new décor and a store within a store concept features easily defined departments with unique looks and easy-to-shop features such as overhead lighting and lower, narrower shelving so items are easier to reach. New departments include: " Foods from Around the World " Relax, Renew, Revive " Nature's Promise Marketplace " Baby's First Steps " Entertainment Center " Companion Pet " Saki Sushi " Chinese Buffet

In addition, the store still includes some of the old favorites that shoppers have come to appreciate, such as the kosher deli, operated by Rabbi Nissin Berg, the Cooking School, Tree House playland, and pharmacy. The former Tops location took on the name of sister food chain, Martin's Super Food Store in order to differentiate it in the marketplace

The new store has nearly 400 associates, as compared to the old Tops, which employed 202 associates. "Obviously, the greater number of associates allows us to deliver a new level of customer service," Dave Daddario, store manager commented.

In addition, customers will be treated to new technology that makes shopping even easier. Deli Express allows customers to pre-order their deli items, complete the rest of their shopping and then stop back at the Deli to pick up their filled order before checking out. The Shop to Cook kiosk allows customers to choose their meat or seafood and simply scan it at the kiosk for quick and easy recipes. And, in the Nature's Promise Marketplace, a "Healthnotes" kiosk touch screen provides information on healthy lifestyles. The Easy Scan check out makes checking out quick and easy for those who don't want to wait for personal service.

All of store's main departments, such as the butcher, deli, bakery, seafood and floral have new identities that fit the updated decor. Key areas include: Ø Corner Bakery Shoppe - featuring upscale desserts, whipped cream desserts, a variety of other sweet indulgences, hearth oven baked bread and a bagel shoppe. Photos cakes are a customer favorite. Ø Butcher Shoppe - a full service meat case offering Certified Angus Beef, Perdue Premium Chicken and new, premium quality Hatfield Pork. Ø The Florist - full service florist with a rose case featuring a full variety of roses everyday. Ø Seafood Market - Eco-Sound seafood and a "no bones about it" guarantee. Ø Market Square Deli - offers made-to-order specialty sandwiches, seasonal salads, Chinese Buffet, grilled veggie bar, brick oven pizza and hot subs, grain bar and chicken wing bar.

KeyBank, which has enjoyed a 10-year relationship with the store, is looking forward to serving customers in the robust new atmosphere, according to the bank's District President Marsha Henderson. "Martin's clearly is differentiating itself in the market by providing an exhilarating customer experience," says Henderson. "We're happy to continue our relationship and contribute to the service excellence Martin's is so well known for in its high-energy environments. It's a marvelous way to build customer relationships."
