TOPS MARKETS LAUNCHES MYPYRAMID HEALTHY SHOPPING GUIDE
Makes Following New Pyramid Guidelines Easy for Customers

Buffalo, NY - In conjunction with its own Healthy Ideas program, Tops Markets today launched a new program including the MyPyramid Healthy Shopping Guide helping customers to follow the new food guidelines as they shop throughout the store. Last month, the U.S. Department of Agriculture unveiled its new MyPyramid symbol and interactive food guidance system. Tops program is designed to guide customers toward healthful eating.

"Through our Healthy Ideas program, Tops supports customers desires to live healthier lifestyles," stated Denny Hopkins, vice president of advertising and public relations. "With the introduction of the new MyPyramid interactive guidelines, we look forward to providing our customers the most up-to-date information in an easy-to-understand design."

Throughout Tops stores, customers will see a variety of signage and information supporting the new MyPyramid program. " Stanchion signs and color-coded graphics - help distinguish the various food groups within the pyramid and can be found in each perishable section, such as meat, dairy, fruit and vegetables. Each sign offers ideas to make following the guidelines easier as well as tips for healthy shopping. For example in the dairy aisle, Tops offers the shopping idea of keeping low-fat or fat-free dairy choices on hand to use as healthier substitutes in your favorite recipes.

" Product markers - also available throughout the non-perishable departments to designate how products, such as nuts and beans, fit into the MyPyramid guidelines.

" In addition, a "Healthy Shopping Guide" features guidelines and easy tips for incorporating MyPyramid into your daily diet, including a healthy shopping list and sample meal plans. More information, including expanded meal planning ideas, will be available as the program evolves over the next several months.

The USDA's new MyPyramid guide is an interactive system designed to help consumers make personalized healthy eating and exercise choices. For a personalized nutrition and exercise program, customers can log onto www.topsmarkets.com and click on Healthy Ideas for a link directly to the MyPyramid website along with nutritional and dietary information that provides choices for leading a healthier lifestyle.
