Co-Grand Prize Winners Awarded for First Time!

Buffalo, NY - Representatives from Tops Markets and the Taste of Buffalo today announced the winners and runners up for the official Taste poster. The winning artwork is going to be used in the poster for this year's Taste of Buffalo presented by Tops, to be held July 9 and 10 on Delaware Avenue.

The contest, which was held in all Western New York high schools this past winter, encouraged 9-12th grade students to design a poster based on this year's Taste theme, "Safari On Delaware". Students enrolled in a public, private, or parochial high school in Erie or Niagara counties were eligible to enter.

For the first time ever, two students have been named as co-grand prize winners, as elements from each of their designs were combined to create the final poster. The two grand prize winners were Caitlin Deibel, a 12th grade student at Hamburg High School and David J. Padak, an 11th grade student at St. Francis High School. Both students and their respective school each received $500 in cash. Ms. Deibel designed the animal silhouette art and Mr. Padak created the border which is being incorporated into the poster and promotional materials being developed for this year's Taste of Buffalo presented by Tops Markets.

Over 85 students representing 15 schools in the region entered the contest. "All the entries illustrated the safari spirit that the Taste and Tops wanted to convey through this year's theme," commented Max Henderson, executive vice president and general manager, Tops Markets. "We are very proud of all the entries and found the final judging to be difficult."

First place runner-up was awarded to John Koester, a 12th grade student from Eden Junior/Senior High School. Mr. Koester will receive a $150 gift certificate for art supplies provided by Hyatt's-All Things Creative.

"The variety and creativity of posters we received reflects the artistic talent found in our local schools," stated James Moreale, chairman, 2005 Taste of Buffalo presented by Tops Markets.

The following students are recognized as runners up: Michael Bauer, John F. Kennedy High School Marianne Elinkski, Springville-Griffith Cassi Gentz, Kenmore/Tonawanda Career Center Liliya Nezgovorova, Kenmore/Tonawanda Career Center Nick Rogacki, Eden Junior/Senior High School Linsay McQuiggan, Potter Career Center Jeff Nordvik, Kenmore/Tonawanda Career Center
