(EASTERN VERSION) TOPS MARKETS DONATES HALF A MILLION TO JUVENILE DIABETES RESEARCH FOUNDATION
Over $200,000 raised by Rochester customers and associates

Buffalo, NY - Tops Markets today announced that through the generous support of their customers and associates, over $200,000 will be donated to the Rochester chapter of the Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation (JDRF). This past spring, customers purchased paper sneakers for $1 at the check-out to help raise funds in the fight against juvenile diabetes. Tops associates supported JDRF by participating in local walk events as well as through their own fundraising activities at both the store level and at corporate headquarters in Williamsville, NY. "We want to thank our customers and associates for joining us in the fight to help find a cure for juvenile diabetes," said Max T. Henderson, executive vice president and general manager. "We would not be able to support such worthwhile causes and organizations without their generosity."

Last year, Tops raised $425,000 chain wide, but this year it exceeded projections raising over $500,000 in the combined Western and Central New York markets. This year also marked a 98% increase in Tops walkers at the Rochester walk event over 2004. The Tops walk team consisted of associates, families and friends. Tops Markets, LLC is one of four retail-operating companies under Ahold USA, and the leading supermarket chain in Western New York. Tops currently operates 152 Tops Markets in three states in addition to two Martin's Super Food Stores. Founded in 1962, Tops employs nearly 18,000 associates.
