TOPS WELCOMES GOLDEN CUP COFFEE TO TEN LOCATIONS ACROSS WESTERN NEW YORK
Honoring Local Black Run Businesses During Black History Month

(Williamsville, NY) – Never did Jackie Stover-Stitts think that one day she’d be running a successful coffee brand with her husband Larry, but after an inspirational trip Larry took to Africa, he was hooked on learning how to roast the perfect blend. After enrolling in coffee roasting courses, investing in a roaster, and a few years of trial and error, Larry began sharing their creations with neighbors. The result? Two delicious Golden Cup blends: African Gold Blend (medium roast) and Buffalo Roast Blend (dark roast). “The Buffalo Roast was very serendipitous because we thought it was too dark and that we had to throw it away until someone tried it and convinced us to keep it. Today it is one of our best-selling coffees,” said Jackie. Available in ground, whole bean, and K-cups, you’ll now find both of these rich and delicious Golden Cup blends in ten Tops locations throughout Western New York. But if you can’t wait for it to hit shelves at Tops, Golden Cup also has a café, located at 1323 Jefferson Ave., in Buffalo. “We originally had a roastery in a location in the Refuge Temple Plaza when we began in 2010 but we needed a bigger space with better visibility. Four years ago, we moved to our current location and it’s been a blessing,” Jackie told a Tops spokeswoman. When we opened, Jackie said they added a menu to help entice people to come into the shop. Their menu has a delicious array of southern treats you won’t find in most cafes including blackeye pea and collard green soup, chicken gumbo and a delicious turkey chili. The deserts are also outstanding with a southern twist. You must try their sweet potato pound cake, caramel cake, sweet potato pie and seasonal delights like pumpkin cranberry pound cake. The café also offers flavored coffees, specialty chocolate candy bars, and gourmet sandwiches. Prior to their venture info the coffee world, Jackie was an attorney and Larry worked in federal, state and local contract compliance. This career shift is both challenging but also rewarding. “The business is more difficult than it appears. It was certainly eye opening when we first got started. You never think about all of the things that go into running a business. From advertising, to identifying your customers, building a brand and how much time all of these things take. But hard work does come with rewards. “Although we have not become wealthy from coffee sales, yet, it is rewarding to hear customers say this is the best coffee I’ve ever had, or I love your food, or I’ve never had this before-it’s delicious. That is my reward.” said Jackie. Tops prides itself in supporting locally owned and operated business and working with local vendors and as we highlight these partnerships throughout the month of February, we encourage you to shop local and support businesses like Golden Cup during Black History Month and beyond.
