Free Brochure Available at Stores Filled with Healthy Ideas

Williamsville, NY - Confused by conflicting dieting advice and tempted by summer barbecues and ice cream treats? Looking for simple, practical advice on how to have a sensible diet and an effective exercise program? TOPS Markets and Martin's Super Food Stores are offering "It's All About Balance," a 12-page free brochure giving customers tips on how to balance eating healthy with physical activity.

"Living a healthy and balanced lifestyle has become a major focal point for today's consumer," said Beth Holmes, Director of Health and Wellness. "Today's supermarket is a convenient and practical place for customers to find helpful tips on the combination of healthy eating and exercise."

Based on information found at, the federal website promoting healthy eating and activity, the brochure features advice on how to "bank" calories, tips on portion control, safe and healthy exercise recommendations, and a variety of suggestions for smart snacking.

The booklet contains helpful tips such as: *One cup of potatoes, rice or pasta (a recommended serving size) is about the size of a tennis ball.

*An hour of walking can burn almost 200 calories.

*Just eating 100 calories a day more than you need could cause you to gain 10 pounds in a year.

"TOPS and Martin's have a special commitment to consumer education," noted Holmes. "This booklet is one more example of how we try to make it easy for our customers to make balanced choices that lead to a healthier lifestyle."

The brochures are now available at all TOPS Markets and Martin's Super Food Stores and can be found near the store entrance. An electronic copy of the booklet can also be printed from the TOPS Markets website at
