Williamsville, NY - TOPS Markets today announced the completion of its first phase of remodeled stores for 2006. A total of six locations have undergone various degrees of renovations over the past several months. In April, TOPS officials announced a $20 million capital investment at eleven of the company's stores throughout the Buffalo Niagara region for 2006.

"TOPS has gone above and beyond our original $20 million commitment. We are well on track to exceed that original capital investment on the renovations of eleven of our stores this year," said Max Henderson, Jr., executive vice president and general manager, TOPS Markets. "I'd also like to thank our customers for their patience throughout the remodeling process and hope they will share in our excitement about the upgrades, which provide more shopping amenities and convenience."

To date, renovations and refurbishments have been completed at the following six TOPS stores:

§ 3865 Union Road, Cheektowaga

§ 4777 Transit Road, Depew

§ 3949 Lockport-Olcott Road, Lockport

§ 11170 Maple Ridge Road, Medina

§ 7200 Niagara Falls Boulevard, Niagara Falls

§ 355 Orchard Park Road, West Seneca

Each store was looked at on a case-by-case basis to determine the necessary refurbishments for each location. While the extent of the remodels vary by store, all six stores received an entirely new décor package, upgrades to bulk food fixtures and the addition of a Nature's Promise Marketplace, "a health food store within the store," offering an expanded variety of natural and organic products, including TOPS' own brand, Nature's Promise.

All six stores also received installation of state-of-the-art technology to provide customers with a more convenient shopping experience. The installed components vary by location, but include EasyScan self-checkout stations, EasyWeigh and EasyShop personal scanner. Additionally, some of the six stores received upgrades of current amenities, such as the bakery, meat, seafood, deli, floral and Relax, Revive, Renew health and beauty departments.

Remodels at these five additional TOPS locations will be completed by the end of this year:

§ 2351 Maple Road, Amherst

§ 2101 Elmwood Avenue, Buffalo

§ 9660 Transit Road (at North French), East Amherst

§ 65 Grey Street, East Aurora

§ 1740 Sheridan Drive (at Delaware), Tonawanda

"TOPS is on track to continue with our multi-year reinvestment campaign," continued Henderson. "Our customers can expect the same or more for 2007. We are currently identifying several locations to undergo similar types of renovations for next year."
