TOPS MARKETS COMPLETES MULTI-MILLION DOLLAR REMODEL AT CHEEKTOWAGA STORE | |
TOPS MARKETS COMPLETES MULTI-MILLION DOLLAR REMODEL AT CHEEKTOWAGA STORE Store is one of 11locations to complete renovations by end of 2006 Cheektowaga, NY - TOPS Markets today announced the completion of its first six Buffalo Niagara store remodels, including its Cheektowaga location at 3865 Union Road. During the remodeling process, the Cheektowaga TOPS was significantly refurbished from the upgrade of current amenities to the addition of new features and departments. "We'd like to thank our customers for continuing to shop with us throughout the renovation process," said Joe Macadlo, store manager. "With this remodel, we were able to satisfy our shoppers' needs and provide them with new amenities and upgrades to complete their shopping in the most effective and efficient manner." In addition to an entirely new décor package, Cheektowaga customers will find updated bakery, meat, seafood, deli and floral departments. New departments to the store include Nature's Promise Marketplace, a "health food store within the store," offering an expanded variety of natural and organic products, including TOPS own brand, Nature's Promise, and organic selections of produce, dairy, meat and poultry products. There is also the addition of the Relax, Revive, Renew department, which offers the effect of shopping in a specialty store for all of a customer's health and beauty needs. Customers will also find a special wall dedicated to big pack items such as diapers, paper towels and cleaning supplies. Along with health and wellness, the remodeled store features state-of-the-art technology to provide customers with a more convenient shopping experience. EasyWeigh allows customers to weigh produce, bulk foods and other random weight items. After placing the item in a bag and placing it on the scale, the customer enters a PLU (price look-up) number on the touch-screen, which then prints the barcode label that is used for checkout. Besides all of the interior changes, customers will also see renovations to the exterior, including the vestibule and the installation of a new building sign. In April, TOPS officials announced a multi-million dollar capital reinvestment at 11 of the company's stores throughout the Buffalo Niagara region. Cheektowaga and five additional stores have completed renovations, including Depew, Lockport, Medina, Niagara Falls and West Seneca. Remodels at five additional locations are expected to be complete by the end of this year. "TOPS has gone above and beyond our original $20 million commitment for 2006. We are well on track to exceed that original capital investment on the renovations of eleven of our stores by the end of this year," said Max Henderson, Jr., executive vice president and general manager. "Our customers can expect the same or more for 2007 as TOPS continues with our multi-year reinvestment campaign." TOPS Markets, LLC, headquartered in Williamsville, NY is one of four retail-operating companies under Ahold USA and is a division of Giant Food Stores in Carlisle, PA. TOPS currently operates 119 TOPS Markets and 4 Martin's Super Food Stores. With nearly 16,000 associates, TOPS serves a three state market area.
