Store is one of 11 locations to complete renovations by end of 2006

Depew, NY - TOPS Markets today announced the completion of its first six Buffalo Niagara store remodels, including its Depew location at 4777 Transit Road. During the remodeling process, the Depew TOPS was significantly refurbished from the upgrade of current amenities to the addition of new features and departments.

"Our goal was to provide as little inconvenience as possible throughout the renovation process and we hope our customers will experience many of our newly installed and enhanced amenities as a result of the remodel," said Lenny Smith, store manager. "Not only were we able to give the store an overall facelift, but we also provide shoppers with a more efficient shopping experience with the addition of state-of-the-art technology and greater emphasis on health and wellness."

In addition to an entirely new d├ęcor package, Depew customers will find updated bakery, meat, seafood, deli, floral and Relax Revive Renew departments. New departments to the store include Nature's Promise Marketplace, a "health food store within the store," offering an expanded variety of natural and organic products, including TOPS' own brand, Nature's Promise, and organic selections of produce, dairy, meat and poultry products. Customers will also find a special wall dedicated to big pack items such as diapers, paper towels and cleaning supplies. Along with health and wellness, the remodeled store features state-of-the-art technology to provide customers with a more convenient shopping experience. In addition to friendly cashiers, EasyShop allows customers to use a hand-held device to scan and bag items in their cart as they shop. It also provides customers with a running total of their purchases prior to checkout. Once a customer is done shopping, all they do at the checkout is pay and go, providing a faster checkout process. Customers will also find the addition of two more EasyScan self-service checkouts.

EasyWeigh allows customers to weigh produce, bulk foods and other random weight items. After placing the item in a bag and placing it on the scale, the customer enters a PLU (price look-up) number on the touch-screen, which then prints the barcode label that is used for checkout.

As a one-stop informational center, customers can also find what they are looking for at one of the Shopping Solutions kiosks found throughout the store. By using the interactive touch-screen, customers can place a deli order, refill a prescription, check out personalized BONUSCARD savings offers and even find the location of a specific item within the store. TOPS also makes it easy to find meal ideas. Customers can scan the barcode on any meat, seafood or produce item at a Shopping Solutions kiosk and be provided with recipes, suggestions for side dishes and a listing of ingredients for new and innovative ideas for dinner, a snack or a special celebration.

In April, TOPS officials announced a multi-million dollar capital reinvestment at 11 of the company's stores throughout the Buffalo Niagara region. Depew and five additional stores have completed renovations, including Cheektowaga, Lockport, Medina, Niagara Falls and West Seneca. Remodels at five additional locations are expected to be complete by the end of this year.

"TOPS has gone above and beyond our original $20 million commitment for 2006. We are well on track to exceed that original capital investment on the renovations of eleven of our stores by the end of this year," said Max Henderson, Jr., executive vice president and general manager. "Our customers can expect the same or more for 2007 as TOPS continues with our multi-year reinvestment campaign."
