Williamsville, NY - Officials from TOPS Markets today announced their largest charitable donations ever, totaling more than $11.7 million in combined cash and product contributions in 2006. The donations were given to beneficiaries of the "Living Here, Giving Here" program that includes local hunger-related organizations, Children's Miracle Network hospitals and local non-profit groups.

"We want to thank our customers, associates and vendors for their generous contributions over the past year," said Max Henderson, Jr., executive vice president and general manager. "TOPS is proud to support charities and food banks within our local communities and it's because of the kindness and support of our customers and associates we are able to overwhelmingly achieve that mission year after year."

As an organization that "lives here and gives here," TOPS give back to local organizations through donations at both the corporate and store levels. Here are a few of the highlights of TOPS community programs in 2006:

In addition, TOPS made a $1 million pledge to renovate the pediatric ambulatory surgery center at Women & Children's Hospital of Buffalo.

Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation - TOPS continues to be a proud supporter of JDRF, raising more than half a million dollars in 2006 through customer donations and walk participants.

Salvation Army - Through its annual Hope for the Holidays campaign, TOPS customers helped to raise more than $75,000 for distribution to regional Salvation Army units in New York. In 2006, TOPS also helped brighten the holidays with a $40,000 donation of toys to Buffalo, Batavia, Rochester, Ithaca and Elmira units.
