TOPS MARKETS KICKS OFF ANNUAL SNEAKER CAMPAIGN TO DEFEAT JUVENILE DIABETES | |
Williamsville, NY - Every three minutes a person dies from juvenile diabetes and every 30 seconds another case is diagnosed. TOPS Markets and Martin's Super Food Store are once again joining forces with their customers and associates in the fight against juvenile diabetes with its annual in-store sneaker campaign. For just a $1.00 donation, TOPS and Martin's customers can show their support for Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation (JDRF) at the checkout with the purchase of a paper sneaker. "Having a partnership like we do with TOPS and Martins certainly brings us one step closer to finding a cure for Type 1 diabetes," said Jennifer Hickok, JDRF special events manager. "The customers and associates of TOPS and Martins have generated more than $4.3 million since our relationship began in 1993. Support like this is why we will find a cure for our kids and our loved ones." TOPS will be selling paper sneakers beginning April 22 through May 19 with 100% of the funds raised going towards researching a cure for juvenile diabetes. As a donation thank you, customers who purchase a JDRF sneaker will receive a $1.00 off coupon for TOPS Sunrise Valley Premium Orange Juice. "We once again encourage our customers to help defeat juvenile diabetes by donating just $1 during our annual sneaker campaign," said Max Henderson, EVP/general manager. "Last year, our customers and store associates raised more than $532,000 for JDRF through generosity at the checkout and by participating in a local Walk for a Cure." JDRF is the world's largest charitable funder of type 1 diabetes research, and was founded in 1970 by the parents of children with juvenile diabetes - a disease that strikes children suddenly, makes them insulin dependent for life, and carries the constant threat of devastating complications. Since inception, JDRF has provided more than $1 billion to diabetes research worldwide. More than 80 percent of JDRF's expenditures directly support research and education about research. JDRF's mission is constant: to find a cure for diabetes and its complications through the support of research. TOPS Markets, LLC, one of the leading supermarket operations in the U.S., currently operates stores in New York and Pennsylvania under the names of TOPS Markets and Martin's Super Food Stores.
