Carlisle, PA - Giant Food Stores is announcing that all production codes of Topps' frozen ground beef patties have been removed from Giant Food Stores, Martin's Food Markets, and Tops Markets following additional information that federal food safety inspectors have suspended the grinding of raw products at the Topps Meat Co. because of possible E. coli 0157:H7 contamination.

The Topps brand frozen ground beef products should not be confused with the Tops Markets corporate brand products.

This action is being taken as an additional precautionary measure following a Class I Food Recall issues by USDA earlier this week on Topps brand frozen ground beef products. When the initial Class I Food Recall was issued, Giant Food Stores, Martin's Food Markets and Tops Markets took immediate action and removed from stores affected code dates. Food safety is of paramount important to us. This additional, voluntary action is being taken to ensure the safety of our customers. We will continue to monitor the situation and follow USDA's recommendations.

Any customer who has purchased these products from our stores can return them for a full refund. If customers have health concerns, they should contact their physician or health care practitioner immediately.
