TOPS & MARTIN'S SPREAD HOLIDAY CHEER WITH DONATIONS TO LOCAL SALVATION ARMY UNITS
Williamsville, NY - Salvation Army units throughout New York State will receive a special donation from TOPS Markets and Martin's Super Food Stores just in time for the holiday season. Due to an overwhelming show of support by TOPS and Martin's customers, the stores' annual "Hope for the Holidays" program raised a total of $87,660.53 for local Salvation Army units across New York State. These customer cash donations will be distributed to the Salvation Army units in the markets where the moneys were raised and will be used to provide food, warm clothing and toys for low-income families who would otherwise go without this time of year.

"The generosity and support of our customers in the markets we serve never ceases to amaze me, especially during this time of year," said Frank Curci, president and CEO of TOPS Markets. "We are truly happy to be able to help so many families in need."

Check presentation events were held in Buffalo, Rochester, Batavia, Elmira and Ithaca with local TOPS/Martin's and Salvation Army representatives. The breakdown of donations by community is as follows:

Salvation Army Buffalo Area Services, $36,193.68 in customer cash donations

Salvation Army Rochester Area Services, $14,929.40 in customer cash donations

Salvation Army of Batavia, $970.00 in customer cash donations

Salvation Army of Elmira, $1,290.77 in customers cash donations

Salvation Army of Ithaca, $1,521.88 in customer cash donations

Individual Corps/Units*, $32,754.00 in customer cash donations

*As defined by the Salvation Army, individual corps are defined as chapters that are larger and have officers/majors at the helm. *As defined by the Salvation Army, individual units are defined as smaller groups without officers.

Sponsored by TOPS Markets and Martin's Super Food Stores, "Hope for the Holidays" is an annual three-week program that ran this year from November 18th to December 8th to help brighten the holidays for needy families. The program is shopper-friendly, as TOPS and Martin's customers are encouraged to help local families by using tear-off coupons located at cash registers. Customers have the option of choosing a voucher for the Food Bank and/or Salvation Army in their respective community where all monies are ultimately donated.
