TOPS FRIENDLY MARKETS CONTINUES BUILDING LOCAL WORKFORCE; ADDS 40 ACCOUNTING JOBS | |
Williamsville, NY – Tops Friendly Markets today announced that the grocer is continuing its pledge to increase the size of its workforce as part of its transition to a locally managed and operated company by creating 40 new, local accounting jobs. The positions will range from staff accountants and clerks, to analysts and supervisors and will be based at either Tops’ headquarters location in Williamsville, N.Y. or at an additional space near the headquarters. Tops is currently seeking applicants and interviewing for the positions. Prior to this announcement, Tops had already added 60 jobs in Western New York since the beginning of the year. “We are creating these 40 new positions as part of our overall goal to once again make Tops Friendly Markets a local company,” said Jack Barrett, Tops’ senior vice president of human resources. “These new accounting jobs are an important part of our operations and this announcement is yet another indication of Tops’ commitment to Western New York and our pledge to create new jobs and opportunities.” Barrett indicated that Tops is taking over its own accounting responsibilities from Giant Foods of Carlisle, Pa. Giant managed numerous Tops operations, including accounting, during the time both companies fell under the same ownership. In December 2007, Morgan Stanley Private Equity completed its purchase of Tops and since that time Tops management has been working to bring the majority of its operations back to Western New York. In March, Tops announced that its headquarters would remain in Williamsville. Tops Markets, LLC, is headquartered in Williamsville, NY and operates 71 full-service supermarkets and five franchise supermarkets. With over 10,000 associates, Tops is the leading full-service grocery retailer in Western New York, Central New York, including Rochester, and Northwestern Pennsylvania.
