TOPS AWARDS $5,000 TO VILLAGE OF HAMBURG ORGANIZATIONS AS PART OF PRE-GRAND RE-OPENING
First major Tops renovation in the Buffalo area under capital plan to be complete by end of April

WILLIAMSVILLE, N.Y. – Five Hamburg organizations have received $1,000 each from Tops Friendly Markets during a pre-grand reopening ceremony that took place on Tuesday, April 14, as the grocer nears completion of renovations to its store in the Village. The awards are in recognition of those organizations that continuously support of the Village of Hamburg. The organizations that received the donations are: Scranton Fire Department, Village of Hamburg Recreation Department, the Hamburg Village Fire Department, the Hamburg Village Police Department, and the Hamburg Town Police Department.

Tops Friendly Markets, the leading full-service grocery retailer in Western New York, Central New York, including Rochester, and Northwestern Pennsylvania, is in the midst of a major renovation project at the store located at 6150 South Park Ave.; the 84,900 square foot store originally opened in 1992. The renovations are expected to be complete by late April and the grand re-opening is scheduled for Monday, April 27.

This renovation will provide customers with more than one thousand new product offerings including expanded ethnic, chef-inspired, and natural and organic items. The renovation includes many interior improvements and an expanded product selection. Additional, specific details about the renovation will be announced upon completion.

“We’re pleased to be the first Tops store in the Buffalo area to be able to offer these changes and improvements to our customers.” said Mark Mendola, manager of the Hamburg Tops. “We are also proud to honor organizations in the Hamburg community that have provided continuous support over the years, making the Village of Hamburg a great place to live and work. We feel that giving back to these organizations is one of the most important things we can do. -more- A few of the organizations have already decided what the funds will be used for. These include such items as a defibrillator for the Hamburg Village Police Department, a stretcher for the Hamburg Fire Department, and craft equipment for the Village of Hamburg Recreation Department.

As part of Tops’ pledge to partner with local businesses, the company has brought on R&P Oak Hill of Hamburg, N.Y. as general contractor for this project.
