WILLIAMSVILLE, N.Y. – Tops Friendly Markets, the leading full-service grocery retailer in Western New York, Central New York, including Rochester, and Northwestern Pennsylvania, today announced the appointment of Sam Qureshi as director of produce and floral marketing.

In this newly created management position at Tops, Qureshi is responsible for the functions of the produce and floral departments relative to procurement, pricing, merchandising, marketing and advertising.

“Having Sam here, overseeing these vital departments and making critical buying decisions on product assortment, pricing and presentation will undoubtedly enhance our customers’ shopping experience.” said Patrick Curran, Tops’ Senior V.P. of Sales and Marketing. “Our goal for the 2009 growing season is to expand upon last year’s successes, and place an even greater focus on our continued expansion of locally grown, fresh produce with a focus on New York, Pennsylvania and Ontario homegrown. What is really great for our growers is the fact that we will be making all decisions locally.”

Qureshi previously worked for Tops Markets for 15 years serving as produce manager, produce and floral field specialist, operations manager and store manager. Most recently, Qureshi served as co-manager for Wal- Mart.

Qureshi earned a master’s of business administration from the University at Buffalo and a bachelor of science from the University of Lagos in Nigeria. He resides in Lockport, N.Y. with his wife Karol.
