Williamsville, NY… The Tops Friendly Markets Foundation, at a breakfast gathering on January 23rd, announced the recipients of its first-ever grant distribution. The current recipients applied for grants during the Fall 2002 application period.

In all, the foundation presented $114,600 to organizations that support its mission of educating children and feeding those in need. The recipients also reflect the broad market area in which Tops does business, representing diverse communities throughout Western and Central New York and Northeast Ohio.

Recipients included:

 Boys and Girls Clubs of Buffalo, Inc. Buffalo, NY  Buffalo Federation of Neighborhood Centers, Inc. Buffalo, NY  Cleveland Food Bank, Inc. Cleveland, OH  Community Kitchen at Christ Church Albion, NY  Gateway-Longview, Inc. Williamsville, NY  Great Lakes Science Center Cleveland, OH  Humane Society of Rochester and Monroe County at Lollypop Farm Fairport, NY  Junior Achievement of Western New York Buffalo, NY

In order to qualify, organizations had to be tax-exempt under IRS section 501(c)(3), had to support the foundation’s mission, and had to be requesting funding for a special project or program, not to cover administrative or operating expenses.
