TOPS FRIENDLY MARKETS HOLDS GRAND REOPENING AT NEWLY RENOVATED AUBURN STORE
WILLIAMSVILLE, N.Y. –Tops Friendly Markets, the leading full-service grocery retailer in Western New York, Central New York, including Rochester, and Northwestern Pennsylvania, today held a grand reopening celebration to mark the completion of a major renovation of its Auburn, NY location.

The multi-million dollar renovation of this Tops store, located at 352 West Genessee Street, provides customers with interior and exterior improvements along with an expanded product selection. The 55,000 square-foot store originally opened in 1976.

“We’ve identified this specific location as one of the first stores in our mid-state marketing area and within our five-year capital investment plan, to receive improvements,” said Frank Curci, CEO of Tops. “The store’s new and renovated features are centered around an increased selection of products, easy navigation, and most importantly, satisfying and delighting our customers.”

Specifically, changes at the store include new interior and exterior décor, upgraded floral, bakery and produce departments, enhanced specialty cheese shop, and renovated carry-out café area. In addition, Tops has replaced meat and seafood display cases, dairy and frozen food display cases, bakery cases, and prepared food cases which will allow the store to offer a wider variety of these products to shoppers. Customers will also notice upgraded restrooms and customer service area, a brand new exterior bottle return area, and the addition of four self-scan lanes, where customers can conveniently scan their own groceries upon check-out.

The Auburn location offers a full-service franchised Tim Hortons kiosk, which serves fresh brewed coffee, select cold beverages and baked goods, and in the prepared food section are several varieties of Anchor Bar chicken wings.

“We’ve listened to our customers and now being a locally operated company, we’re better able to respond to their needs,” said Rich Szachta, manager of the Auburn Tops. “We’re offering shoppers an enhanced in-store experience, paying special attention to convenience, quality, variety and an overall great value.”

In addition, Tops placed an emphasis on sustainability with the installation of a new, modern energy management system, which reduces the electricity consumption of store lighting and refrigeration programs. The new frozen food display cases will also feature anti-sweat heaters, reducing energy consumption.

This past November also marked the grand opening of the Auburn Tops’ new on-site fueling station. Customers are now able to redeem their Gas Rewards points at the fueling site through Tops Markets’ Gas BonusPoints program.
