DUNKIRK, NY QUALITY MARKETS TO CLOSE AS TOPS MARKETS CONTINUES REVIEW OF PENN TRAFFIC LOCATIONS
WILLIAMSVILLE, N.Y. - Tops Friendly Markets, a leading full-service grocery retailer in Western New York, Central New York, including Rochester, and Northwestern Pennsylvania, announced today that as part of its review process of the acquisition of a majority of Penn Traffic’s assets, the Quality Markets store in Dunkirk, NY will close in early June.

Among several criteria used in the evaluation process have been economic viability, current store condition, and store proximity to an existing Tops Markets location. Tops management and UFCW Local One will be working together to address closing issues including re-employment opportunities. Efforts are underway to offer all interested associates employment at other Tops locations.

Tops Markets announced on Jan. 29 that it had completed the court-approved acquisition of a majority of Penn Traffic’s assets, including 79 supermarkets over a four-state area. An FTC review of several locations is also pending.
