Customers to See Nearly $3 Million Investment in Store Upgrades in Coming Months

WILLIAMSVILLE, N.Y. –Tops Friendly Markets, a leading full-service grocery retailer in upstate New York and northern Pennsylvania, celebrated today with the local community the official grand-re-opening under the Tops brand banner of the former Quality Markets store at 5274 Main St. & Union Rd. in Williamsville.

The Williamsville store was one of 15 in New York and Pennsylvania to celebrate grand re-openings on the same day (June 1) in changing their operating banner to the Tops Friendly Markets name.

In addition to enjoying a wider variety and selection of national and corporate brand products, Frank Curci, Tops’ president and CEO, announced at the ceremony that store customers will also see a more modern store by the end of 2010 once nearly $3 million in capital improvements takes place.

“The entire Tops team has worked very hard to ensure our Williamsville store customers will have a more enjoyable shopping experience as they see the many changes in the setting, amenities, friendly service and promotional grocery items that our neighborhood stores will offer,” said Frank Curci, Tops’ president and CEO. “And we want to be active members of the local community.”

Among the changes taking place at the Williamsville store will be exterior and interior remodeling, including new signage, new seating, new customer restrooms, upgraded floral and bakery, deli, meat and frozen food cases; and the addition of Tim Hortons coffee and service meat and seafood and bulk food departments.

The grand opening ceremony also featured the participation of community leaders and the announcement by Tops of contributions to local charities as part of the company’s “Living Here. Giving Here” community partnership program.

The Quality Markets store was part of the U.S. Bankruptcy Court-approved acquisition of a majority of Penn Traffic’s assets by Tops that was completed on January 29, 2010.

The name change of the Quality Market to Tops Friendly Markets was part of a rebranding effort announced in early May in which all former stores owned by Penn Traffic would be changed to Tops through the end of 2010. This effort was also included within a two-year, $90 million store capital improvement program that will upgrade the shopping experience for Tops store customers.
