TOPS MARKETS, LOCAL COMMUNITY CELEBRATE GRAND RE-OPENING OF SHEFFIELD STORE UNDER NEW TOPS BANNER
WILLIAMSVILLE, N.Y. –Tops Friendly Markets, a leading full-service grocery retailer in upstate New York and northern Pennsylvania, celebrated today with the local community the official grand-re-opening under the Tops brand banner of the former Quality Markets at 9 Leather Street in Sheffield, PA.

The Quality Market was part of the U.S. Bankruptcy Court-approved acquisition of a majority of Penn Traffic’s assets by Tops that was completed on January 29, 2010. The name change of the store to Tops Friendly Markets was included in a rebranding effort announced in early May in which former stores owned by Penn Traffic – Quality Markets, P&C and BiLo -- would be changed to Tops by the end of 2010.

Ceremonies featured the participation of community leaders and the announcement of capital improvements planned for each store as part of an overall two-year $90 million company-wide capital investment program. Donations were made on behalf of Tops to various local charities through the company’s “Living Here. Giving Here” community partnership program. In addition to enjoying a wider variety and selection of national and corporate brand products, John Persons Tops’ senior vice president of operations, announced at the ceremony that store customers will also see a more modern store by the end of 2010 once renovations throughout the entire store take place.

“The entire Tops team, especially the Sheffield store associates have worked very hard to ensure that our Sheffield customers will have a more enjoyable shopping experience as they see the many changes in the setting, amenities, friendly service and promotional grocery items that our neighborhood store will offer,” said John Persons, Tops’ senior vice president of operations. “It is also important for Tops Markets to be an active member of the local community.”

Among the changes taking place at the Sheffield store will be exterior and interior remodeling, including new signage, a new décor package, and the addition of produce food cases.
