The addition of the Spencerport location is part of Tops’ multi-million dollar capital improvement plan, and is a new prototype for the Tops chain. Built on the site of a former IGA store, the new store will serve a community that has been without a grocer for five years. “When the opportunity to operate in the Village of Spencerport became an option for us, we knew that Tops would be a perfect fit,” said Frank Curci, Tops’ president and CEO. “The Spencerport community is unique, and we have designed the store to reflect the history and personality of the surrounding area.”

Construction of the prototype store began in March of 2010. At 40,000 square feet, the store takes on a smaller format than a typical Tops store, allowing for a true neighborhood grocer feel. The store proudly offers a full service deli, bakery, floral and seafood department, a meat department, in which meat is cut fresh daily, a produce department, dairy and frozen foods department, a natural and organic foods department, and Tops’ Carry Out Café, where customers can find delicious prepared foods.

The store has six self check-out stations, a bottle redemption area, and a customer service center for shoppers' convenience. Shoppers can also enjoy the convenience of a self-serve Tim Hortons express kiosk, which serves fresh brewed coffee, select cold beverages and baked goods.

“The amenities and features that the Spencerport Tops provides are centered around a wide array of products, overall value, easy navigation, and most importantly, superior customer service,” said Roger Couch, store manager at the Spencerport location. “We have also made a pledge to partner with local organizations to help make this community a better place to live and work.”

The grand opening celebration included participation from community members and leaders, local and county dignitaries, Tops Markets executives, and store associates. Charitable contributions were made on behalf of Tops to various local organizations through the company’s “Living Here. Giving Here” community partnership program. The Spencerport Volunteer Ambulance Service, Inc., Aurora House of Monroe County, SAHARO Senior Center, Spencerport Ecumenical Food Shelf and the Spencerport Volunteer Firemen’s Association each received $1,000 from Tops as a commitment from the store to the community it serves. Couch also commented on the outpouring of interest during the hiring and staffing process. “Since the announcement was made last fall that Tops was coming to Spencerport, the community has celebrated with great anticipation of the store’s opening,” he said. “When the hiring process began in the spring, the response was overwhelming, and we have been able to create more than 100 new jobs in this community.” Included in the construction was the addition of a fuel site, the second Tops fuel station in the greater Rochester area. The station has six self-serve fuel dispensers offering three grades of high-quality gasoline: regular, mid-grade and premium. For added convenience, customers will also be able to purchase snack food items, beverages, NYS lottery instant and on-line games, automotive maintenance items such as windshield wiper fluid and motor oil, local and national newspapers, and other seasonal items at the walk-in kiosk of the fueling station.

All customers who visit the Spencerport Tops Markets will now be able to redeem fuel rewards at the Spencerport fueling site through Tops’ Gas BonusPoints program. Shoppers who use their BonusCard when shopping at their neighborhood Tops Friendly Markets earn points on qualifying grocery and pharmacy purchases. Customers earn one Gas BonusPoint for every dollar they spend and can track their points at the bottom of their receipt. Customers can redeem these points by just scanning their BonusCard at a Tops gas pump for gas price discounts.
