| WILLIAMSVILLE, N.Y. –Tops Friendly Markets, a leading full-service grocery retailer in upstate New York and northern Pennsylvania, announced today that the company has teamed up with Johnsonville to bring the 65-foot-long ‘Johnsonville Big Taste Grill’ to Tops’ Fayetteville store located at 5351 North Burdick Street on Wednesday, September 1, 2010. “We’re thrilled to partner with Johnsonville on this effort,” said Jim Lane, Tops’ director of meat and seafood. “This event gives us the opportunity to showcase a delicious product, while having a lot of fun doing it.” The nationally renowned grill weighs in at almost 27 tons (53,000 pounds), measures at least two basketball hoops high (20 feet tall), 65 feet long –longer than the width of an NCAA regulation basketball court and can cook up to 2,500 brats per hour. In 1995 the first Big Taste Grill was built to celebrate Johnsonville Sausage’s 50th anniversary. The grill was such a success that in 1998 the company created a second grill and in 2005 an identical third grill was added. Each year the Big Taste Grill cooks close to a million brats while touring the country. As a part of The Big Taste Grill’s central New York stop, Johnsonville Brats and Tops water will be sold on-site and all proceeds will be donated to the Jim and Juli Boeheim Foundation. The foundation strives to enrich the lives of kids in need within the central New York community, as well as provide support for eliminating cancer through research advocacy. “It is Tops’ mission to help make a lasting and meaningful contribution in the central New York community,” said Andrew Brocato, Tops’ director of community relations. “The Jim and Juli Boeheim Foundation’s charitable vision is very similar to that of Tops, and we are proud to support such a worthy cause.” The Big Taste Grill event will be held from 3:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. on Wednesday, September 1 at the Fayetteville Tops location in the parking lot. As part of the event, Tops will also be hosting kid’s activities, food sampling, live music, prizes, and a sidewalk sale. The event is open to the public.
