TOPS MARKETS, LOCAL COMMUNITY CELEBRATE GRAND RE-OPENING OF BRADFORD COUNTY STORES UNDER NEW TOPS BA
WILLIAMSVILLE, N.Y. –Tops Friendly Markets, a leading full-service grocery retailer in upstate New York and northern Pennsylvania, celebrated today with local communities the official grand-re-opening under the Tops brand banner of the former P&C and Bi-Lo stores in Bradford County, PA. The former P&C store in Towanda, PA located at Bradford Town Center, RR Box 6035 and the former Bi-Lo stores located at 595 Elmira Street in Troy, PA and East Main Street, RR#1 in Canton, PA today celebrated grand re-openings.

The Bradford County stores were three of eight locations participating in same-day grand re-opening celebrations with Tops executives, district and store managers, and local community officials and non-profit organizations.

Other stores and communities holding grand re-openings under the Tops brand banner were Norwich, NY; Owego, NY; Watkins Glen, NY; Penn Yan, NY and Wellsboro, PA.

Ceremonies featured the announcement of capital improvements planned for each store as part of an overall two-year $90 million company-wide capital investment program, as well as donations made on behalf of Tops to various local charities through the company’s “Living Here. Giving Here” community partnership program.

-more- At the Towanda location, the Futures Community Support Services, the Towanda Area Christian Outreach Food Pantry, the Wysox Volunteer Fire Company, the Wysox EMS, and the Wysox Presbyterian Church were selected as $500 donation recipients from the Towanda Tops Friendly Markets.

At the Troy location, the Allen F. Pierce Free Library, the Rainbow Riders Riding for the Handicapped, Inc., the Troy Food Pantry, the Oscoluma Engine and Hose Company, Inc., and the Western Alliance Emergency Services, Inc. were selected as $500 donation recipients from the Troy Tops Friendly Markets.

At the Canton location, the Canton Food Pantry, the Innes Hose Company Canton Fire Department, the Endless Mountains Pregnancy Care Center, the Giving Tree, and Operation Holiday Morale were selected as $500 donation recipients from the Canton Tops Friendly Markets.

“The entire Tops team has worked very hard to ensure that our new store customers will have a more enjoyable shopping experience as they see the many changes in the setting, amenities, friendly service and promotional grocery items that our neighborhood stores will offer,” said Frank Curci, Tops’ president and CEO. “And we want to be active members of the local community.”

The Towanda location is scheduled for a major store renovation in 2011 however, current improvements include a wider variety and selection of favorite brand products, the introduction of the popular Tim Hortons coffee service, and new exterior and interior décor.

These stores were part of the U.S. Bankruptcy Court-approved acquisition of a majority of Penn Traffic’s assets by Tops that was completed on January 29, 2010. The name change of the stores to Tops Friendly Markets was included in a rebranding effort announced in early May in which former stores owned by Penn Traffic – Quality Markets, P&C and BiLo -- would be changed to Tops by the end of 2010.
