TOPS FRIENDLY MARKETS BEGINS CONSTRUCTION OF FIRST ON-SITE FUEL STATION IN THE SYRACUSE AREA
Addition of fuel station is part of major renovation at Baldwinsville location

WILLIAMSVILLE, N.Y. – Tops Friendly Markets, a leading full-service grocery retailer in upstate New York and northern Pennsylvania, announced today that the company began construction at its first Syracuse-area fueling station site located at 2265 Downer Street in Baldwinsville, NY. The addition of the fueling station is part of a larger plan to renovate the Baldwinsville Tops Friendly Markets. Construction on the new fueling station will be complete in mid-July. The new site is among Tops' 36th fueling facilities, including 24 in the WNY area, four in the Rochester area and five in the mid-state area.

“We are pleased to be able to offer our customers the added convenience of having a fueling station at our Baldwinsville Tops location,” said Frank Curci, Tops’ president and CEO. “Not only will shoppers see major changes in the Baldwinsville store, they’ll also be offered additional savings by filling up at the pump.” Customers who shop at the Downer Street location will be able to redeem their fuel rewards points right at the pump through Tops Markets’ Gas BonusPoints program. Shoppers who use their BonusCard at nearby Tops locations will earn points on qualifying purchases. Customers earn one Gas BonusPoint for every dollar they spend and can track the points at the bottom of their receipt. Every $100 a customer spends equals $.10 off per gallon of Tops gasoline. To redeem the points, customers just scan their BonusCard at a Tops gas pump. The savings can equal 10, 20, 30 cents or more off per gallon. The fueling facility will consist of four, double-sided, self-service fuel dispensers, offering three grades of high-quality gasoline: regular, mid-grade and premium. Customers will have their choice of paying at the pump using a major credit card, or at the walk-in kiosk located by the fuel pumps. For added convenience, customers will also be able to purchase snack food items, beverages, NY state lottery instant and on-line games, automotive maintenance items, such as windshield wiper fluid and motor oil, local and national newspapers, and other seasonal items at the walk-in kiosk of the fueling station.

The fueling station is part of a $3.5 million overall renovation at the Baldwinsville Tops that began on February 2, 2011 and is set to be complete in early July. At 50,000 sq. ft., the in-store renovation will consist of a new storefront, improvements to the store’s parking lot, renovated lobby and overall enhanced décor. Customers will also enjoy the addition of a bulk foods department as well as brand new health and beauty, natural and organic sections and full-service meat and seafood departments. The store will also boast upgrades to its floral, bakery, dairy/frozen departments, as well as an enhanced Tops’ Carry Out Café, where customers can find delicious prepared foods.

“The changes in-store will focus on easier navigation, an even wider variety of products, exceptional value and an overall enhanced shopping experience at a beautifully renovated facility,” said Mike Mastrogiovanni, Tops’ Baldwinsville store manager. Shoppers will also continue to enjoy the convenience of a self-serve Tim Hortons express kiosk, which serves fresh brewed coffee, select cold beverages and baked goods.

The Downer Street Tops Markets is open 24 hours, and the fueling facility will be open from 6 a.m. to 11 p.m., daily. The store will remain open throughout the entire renovation.
