Features Large Ethnic and Kosher Selections

Williamsville, NY … Tops Friendly Markets became the newest member of the University Heights, OH community when it opened for business at 9:00 a.m. today. The new store is in the University Square shopping center, 2203 Warrensville Center Road at Cedar Road.

The 57,000 square foot store is located on the second level of the shopping center and is the first Tops to be included as a part of a multi-level building. It is also the only Tops with an attached parking ramp, from which customers can easily access the store.

“This is a unique store with a lot to offer,” said Frank Curci, Tops’ president and CEO. “The store is as diverse as the community it serves. We’re excited to be opening, and the community seems excited to have us here.”

The product mix at the new University Square Tops appeals to all shoppers. The grocery, bakery, meat, deli and produce departments boast hundreds of Kosher items. Its vast ethnic and specialty selection includes Eastern European, Russian, Asian, Indian and Caribbean foods that can be found in nearly every department of the store. Grocery and meat “Extra Value Zones” offer attractive prices for budget-conscious shoppers, while natural, organic and local items are available for those who prefer them.

Upon entering the store, customers can quickly take advantage of Walter’s Garden fresh produce department and the Wall of Values, featuring items from the current ad. The store is complete with full-service Butcher’s Block and Captain’s Choice meat and seafood departments. Other key departments include a Baker’s Oven bakery, a Petal Works fresh floral department, and a Relax, Renew, Revive health and beauty department.

The store also features such conveniences as an in-store pharmacy, U-Scan self-checkouts and a CarryOut Café to provide convenient, one-stop shopping for today’s time-starved customers.

University Heights Mayor Beryl Rothschild, joined Curci and store manager Sal Albanese in a ribbon-cutting ceremony at 8:30 this morning. The ceremony featured a performance by the Heights Singers Tour, comprised of high school students in the University and Cleveland Heights area. To show its appreciation, Tops presented the group with a $500 donation, underscoring its commitment to education. Tops also presented the Series of Discoveries with a donation to further support its diversity programs in area schools.

 Store Hours: Monday – Saturday 7 a.m. – 11 p.m. Sunday 7 a.m.- 10 p.m.

 Pharmacy - Aside from filling prescriptions, the new pharmacy offers a consultation room, where customers can talk with a professional pharmacist, who can address various health questions or concerns. Tips for healthy living, including information about drugs, diseases and a good diet, will also be available. Hours: Monday – Friday 9 a.m.- 8 p.m. Saturday 9 a.m.- 6 p.m. Sunday 10 a.m. - 3 p.m.

Customers in University Heights will also be able to take advantage of Tops’ Easy Fill program, which enables them to transfer prescriptions and refill orders over the phone or via the Internet.

 U-Scan self-service checkouts - The University Heights location is the 44th Tops to feature the system, which is designed to assist customers with small orders that would traditionally be rung through the “Express Lanes”.

 CarryOut Café - located adjacent to the deli, offers freshly prepared entrees, rotisserie and fried chicken, pizza, made-to-order sub sandwiches, grilled sandwiches, soup and salads. Dine-in or take-out available.

 Baker’s Oven full-service bakery – Offers a variety of fresh-baked breads, rolls, cakes, muffins, bagels, donuts and cookies, along with locally-baked goods from Lax & Mandel Bakery.

 The full-service Butcher Block meat department features fresh, high-quality meats, including Glatt Kosher beef, veal, chicken and lamb.

 Specialty departments: Deli, Butcher’s Block full-service meat, Captain’s Choice full-service seafood, Cheese Shoppe and the Olive Grove.

 Petal Works Floral - A colorful assortment of fresh-cut and arranged of flowers available daily. Special arrangements are available through pre-orders.
