Kogler Recognized for ‘Commitment to Community’

Williamsville, NY… Tops Friendly Markets recently announced that Raymond Kogler, store manager of the company's location on St. Clair Avenue in Cleveland, had been named one of three recipients of its “Commitment to Community” award.

The award is given annually to one manager in each of Tops’ three operating regions. It serves as recognition for those store managers who are consistently going above and beyond expectations to build strong relationships within the communities that Tops serves.

Kogler is best known in the community for coordinating a Kidsfest & Crime Fair in the parking lot of his store. For the past 7 years, the annual event has brought together an array of local businesses that donate food, games and prizes, as well as displays and information tables that provide educational materials. It attracts children and families from throughout the surrounding neighborhoods and provides them with the opportunity to have fun in an atmosphere of positive influence.

Kogler’s dedication to the community extends far beyond his parking lot. He provides donations to local schools as incentives for kids to learn, and to local food pantries to help feed those in need. He is also very active in various neighborhood associations throughout the area, and works closely with the Cleveland Police and Fire Departments.

“No one deserves this award more than Ray,” said John Patten, Tops’ district manager and Kogler’s immediate supervisor. “He’s the type of person who will help you whenever he can, will find someone who can help whenever he can’t. I truly believe that he makes the community around his store a better place by touching the lives of everyone who lives here.”

Kogler has been honored countless times before, both within the company and the community. He was named ‘Man of the Year’ by the Black Shield Club, and has received awards from the Cleveland Police Department for the past 6 years. In 2001, he was one of just five recipients of the Good Neighbor Award of Excellence for Outstanding Community Service, a national recognition.

He resides in North Royalton with his wife, Elaine. He has been the manager of the St. Clair store for the past 10 years, and has been a part of the Tops family for 44 years, including service at Tops’ predecessors Finast and Pick n’ Pay.
