$3.5 million renovation includes major store renovation and fuel location

WILLIAMSVILLE, N.Y. –Tops Friendly Markets, a leading full-service grocery retailer in upstate New York and northern Pennsylvania, today held a grand reopening celebration to mark the completion of a $3.5 million renovation of its Baldwinsville location, including Tops first Syracuse-area fuel location.

The renovation of the 50,000 square-foot store, located at 2265 Downer Street, provides customers with exterior and interior improvements, an expanded product selection and the addition of a new fueling facility.

Grand opening ceremonies featured the participation of Tops Markets executives, local community leaders, and store associates. “We identified Baldwinsville as one of our central New York locations that would benefit from a major store renovation and the addition of our first area fueling station,” said Frank Curci, Top president and CEO. “We are committed to serving the need of our Baldwinsville customers, and are proud that the store’s new and renovated features provide an increased selection of products, easier navigation, and a new fueling facility for added convenience and increased savings.”

Specifically, changes at the store include a new storefront, improvements to the store’s parking lot, renovated lobby, new bottle redemption area, and overall enhanced décor. Customers will also enjoy the addition of a bulk foods department, health and beauty department, natural and organic sections and full-service meat and seafood departments. The store also boasts upgrades to its floral, produce, bakery, deli, dairy/frozen departments, as well as an enhanced Tops’ Carry Out Café, where customers can find delicious prepared foods. Included in the renovation was the addition of four self check-out stations and a Tim Horton’s self-serve kiosk offering fresh brewed coffee, select cold beverages and baked goods.

Starting July 24, customers who shop at the Downer Street location will now be able to redeem fuel rewards points right at the pump through Tops Markets’ Gas BonusPoints program. Shoppers who use their BonusCard will earn points on qualifying purchases. Customers earn one Gas BonusPoint for every dollar they spend and can track the points at the bottom of their receipt. Every $100 a customer spends equals $.10 off per gallon of Tops gasoline. To redeem the points, customers scan their BonusCard at a Tops gas pump. The savings can equal 10, 20, 30 cents or more off per gallon.

“We listened and responded to the needs of our shoppers,” said Mike Mastrogiovanni, manager of the Baldwinsville Tops Markets. “With the renovations that were made, our customers will now have an easier and better shopping experience while being offered more convenience, more variety and more value.”

The fueling facility consists of four, double-sided, self-service fuel dispensers, offering three grades of high-quality gasoline: regular, mid-grade and premium. Customers have their choice of paying at the pump using a major credit card, or at the walk-in kiosk located by the fuel pumps. For added convenience, customers will also be able to purchase snack food items, beverages, NY state lottery instant and on-line games, automotive maintenance items, such as windshield wiper fluid and motor oil, local and national newspapers, and other seasonal items at the fueling station’s walk-in kiosk.
