TOPS MARKETS RAISES $27,867 FOR THE FOOD BANK OF CNY DURING “FOOD FOR FAMILIES” FOOD DRIVE
WILLIAMSVILLE, N.Y. – Tops Friendly Markets in partnership with WSYR-TV and Clear Channel today announced that the first annual “Food for Families” food drive raised $27,867 to benefit the Food Bank of Central New York.

“Helping to eradicate hunger in the communities we serve is a part of Tops’ core mission,” said Frank Curci, Tops president and CEO. “It is important that we help our neighbors, especially at this time of the year and we are committed to this food drive on an annual basis to raise support for the Food Bank of Central New York.”

“We are excited to partner with Tops for the annual Food for Families food drive,” said Thomas Slater, Food Bank of Central New York executive director. “This food drive will help the Food Bank of central New York provide much needed relief to our neighbors in need.”

From Friday, December 9 through Friday, December 16, customers were encouraged to purchase “Little Brown Bags of Hope” for $5, $10 or $20. Sold at all central New York Tops Friendly Markets locations throughout the week, the bags included a variety of food items needed by the Food Bank, including canned fruits and vegetables, peanut butter, rice, cereals and other non-perishable food items. All bags purchased throughout the week were donated to the Food Bank of Central New York.

The week culminated with a day-long outdoor food drive on Friday, December 16, where volunteers from Tops Friendly Markets, WSYR-TV and Food Bank of Central New York collected food and funds at area Tops Friendly Markets.

Tops Friendly Markets proudly reaffirmed its mission of eradicating hunger by providing the Food Bank with an additional donation of $5,000 in canned foods. The donation was made up of cans used in a “Canstruction” food structure, with design and building generously donated by VIP Structures. The structure was designed in the shape of a sleigh with the theme being “Sleigh Hunger.” Canstruction is an international charity where architects, engineers, contractors and students compete to design and build giant structures made entirely from full cans of food.
