Sweepstakes winner of vehicle claims prize at East Aurora Tops store

WILLIAMSVILLE, NY – Tops Friendly Markets, a leading full-service grocery retailer in upstate New York and northern Pennsylvania, today announced Donald Weis of East Aurora, NY as the winner of a 1962 Chevrolet Corvette, valued at $50,000 in Tops’ 50th Anniversary Monopoly® Collect and Win Game, based on the world-famous Hasbro board game, MONOPOLY®.

Weis collected the Corvette sweepstakes prize markers after making a purchase inside the Tops Friendly Markets located at 65 Grey Street, East Aurora, NY. In conjunction with Tops’ 50th anniversary taking place in 2012, was the introduction of a guaranteed winner of a 1962 Corvette through mail-in sweepstakes. Weis submitted the unique Corvette sweepstakes prize-markers and was automatically entered into a drawing to win the vehicle or the cash equivalent. Tops representatives celebrated with a formal presentation for Weis on Tuesday, August 7.

In its third year of play, the game is the first of its kind for a grocer in the area and allowed customers to play every time they checked-out using their BonusPlus or BonusCard at any Tops Markets location. Customers played the 50th Anniversary Monopoly® Collect and Win game by obtaining a free game board at any Tops Markets location, and upon checkout one game ticket was given automatically. Inside the game tickets were 4 prize-markers as well as instant win prizes or coupons. As customers collected prize-markers, they were placed on one of 14 individual games on the MONOPOLY prize board. A prize was awarded once one of any 14 individual games was completed. Customers had the opportunity to earn bonus game tickets by purchasing more than 2,000 specially marked products using their Tops BonusPlus or BonusCard.

New this year, was the introduction of a $250,000 guaranteed cash payout. Up to 200 customers that found special “golden” prize-markers will have a chance to win the $250,000 prize in a special “Golden Ticket” event to take place in September.

Prizes and money saving offers totaled $13 million, including a $250,000 cash payout, up to five $50,000 cash payouts and up to five $10,000 college tuition payments. Other great prizes included multiples chances to win 50,000 Tops GasPoints, $5,000 cash payouts, LCD-HD TVs valued at $1,500, and Apple iPads®.

The Tops 50th Anniversary Monopoly Collect and Win Game ran through July 14th.
