TOPS FRIENDLY MARKETS’ NOTTINGHAM STORE UNVEILS SU’S NEW ACC MEMBERSHIP LOGO
WILLIAMSVILLE, N.Y. –Tops Friendly Markets, a leading full-service grocery retailer in upstate New York and northern Pennsylvania and western Vermont announced that it’s Syracuse University Athletics-themed Nottingham store has unveiled one of the first Atlantic Coast Conference (ACC) logos in the Syracuse area. The store’s frozen food section boasts a basketball court with Syracuse logos and court markings and now, shoppers and associates will see the prestigious ACC logo as well.

The new logo follows the announcement that Syracuse University is no longer affiliated with the Big East, and has officially become a member of the ACC. Tops removed the existing Big East logo and replaced it with the ACC logo. Located just a few miles from the Syracuse University campus, the Tops store truly celebrates the spirit of “The Orange” boasting an SU Athletics theme, making it the only grocery store in the Northeast with university-themed décor. Tops purchased the store in 2010 as part of an acquisition, and after a 14-month, $2.5 million renovation the 43,762 square-foot store was transformed into an upgraded one-stop-shopping experience, and a distinctive destination for Syracuse Athletics fans at the University and within the community.

“We are proud to be a part of the Central New York community, and we understand and support the important role that Syracuse University plays within the greater Syracuse area,” said Mike Patti, regional vice president of operations for Tops Markets. “With our store’s close proximity to the University, and Tops’ strong relationship with SU Athletics, we felt it appropriate to bring the spirit of The Orange into our store in a big way, including showcasing the new ACC distinction.”

As part of the store’s décor, specific SU athletics-themed amenities in this unique grocery store also include the University’s colors - orange and blue, the “Cuse Café,” where shoppers can purchase ready-to-eat and made-to-order hot and cold food items, life-sized wall photos of past and present Syracuse University athletes, orange shopping carts and SU-themed private label and national brand products, throughout the store.

Tops teamed up with Syracuse University athletics in the fall of 2010 to be the major sponsor of Syracuse football, men’s and women’s basketball, and men’s and women’s lacrosse and will continue this partnership for the 2013-2014 season.
