Program rewards schools via purchases using Tops’ BonusPlus card

WILLIAMSVILLE, N.Y. – Tops Friendly Markets, a leading full-service grocery retailer in upstate New York, northern Pennsylvania and western Vermont, announced today the distribution of more than $125,000 to schools across New York, Pennsylvania and Vermont as part of Tops in Education program. Tops in Education is a program that provides financial support to schools when customers purchase certain products using their Tops BonusPlus card.

For the 2013-14 school year, more than 875 schools have received funding from Tops Markets through the program; the schools received the funding this month. In just the first two years of the program, more than $250,000 has been distributed to schools.

“Tops in Education is a simple and easy way to raise money for schools in the communities we serve,” said Frank Curci, Tops’ president and CEO. “With the new school year upon us, Tops is pleased with the continued success of the program and we encourage additional schools and customers to participate in Tops in Education.” The top 10 earning schools for the 2013-14 school year were:

? Lancaster High School, Lancaster, N.Y. ? Lockport High School, Lockport, N.Y. ? Royalton-Hartland Elementary School, Gasport, N.Y. (more) ? Wellsville Elementary School, Wellsville, N.Y. ? Hamburg High School, Hamburg, N.Y. ? Parkdale Elementary School, East Aurora, N.Y. ? Pembroke Central School, Corfu, N.Y. ? Avon Primary School, Avon, N.Y. ? Pinehurst Elementary School, Lake View, N.Y. ? Raymond C Buckley Elementary School, Lansing, N.Y.

Through the Tops in Education program, Tops Markets contributes a percentage of every purchase of eligible products to the school of the customer’s choice. Eligible purchases include Tops brand, TopCare and Full Circle brand products purchased with a TOPS BonusPlus card.

Individual schools must first register to receive funding through Tops in Education. Once registered, customers can visit the Tops website to select their school of choice.

Registration for the 2014-15 school year will begin in September. Schools already participating in the program do not need to re-register; however, customers need to select their school of choice each year via the Tops website.

“Throughout September and October, Tops will actually double the normal contribution to schools when eligible products are purchased through the program,” Curci added.
