Ribbon-Cutting Ceremony Marks Grand Opening of Recently-Acquired Store

WILLIAMSVILLE, N.Y. – Tops Friendly Markets, a leading full-service grocery retailer in upstate New York, northern Pennsylvania and western Vermont, today announced the completion of a $1.35 million renovation during a grand opening for its new store in Warren, PA.

Tops officials and local leaders gathered today for a ribbon-cutting ceremony to mark the official grand opening of the 67,500 square-foot store, formerly Thorne’s BiLo, which Tops acquired in 2015. The store remained open to customers while the renovation was completed. The store includes a Tops fueling station.

As part of today’s grand opening celebration and to show dedication to the Warren community, Tops made donations to Paws Along the River Humane Society, American Cancer Society, Salvation Army, and the Warren Forest Higher Education Council.

“Warren has been very welcoming to Tops and we are excited to be a part of this community and to be its neighborhood grocer,” said John Persons, president and chief operating officer of Tops. “Customers are enjoying a greater selection of products, fresh produce, more variety in meat, dairy and seafood, a new Carryout Café, and an expanded bakery -- all in a fresh, welcoming environment.”

The Warren store employs 110 associates, the majority of which came to Tops from the previous operator. Warren resident Steve Peroski is the store manager.

The renovation consisted of a complete overhaul of the interior décor of the store along with upgrades to the exterior. New features have been added to provide customers with a greater variety of products, new departments and fresher options.

An example is the produce department, which has been expanded and upgraded to include more variety, including more selections from local and regional farmers, especially during the summer and fall growing seasons.

New to the Warren store is a Tops Carryout Café, featuring a line-up of pizzas, subs, soups, salads, an olive bar and hot, ready-to-go meals, plus a new healthy, natural and organic section, The store also boasts an expanded in-store bakery section, and the meat, seafood and dairy departments have additional product selections.

Tops has assumed operations of the fuel site at the Warren store, meaning customers can save money on gas when shopping at Tops. Using a Tops BonusPlus card, customers earn 10-cents off a gallon of gas for every $100 dollars they spend at any Tops location. Weekly store specials provide additional opportunities to save even more on gas.

The Warren store also includes an in-store pharmacy, which is led by Roger Feura and Michelle Wolny. In celebration of the grand opening, through July 9, Tops customers will earn $1.00 off per gallon of gas for any new or transferred prescriptions to the Tops pharmacy and the pharmacy is also offering free 60-count Metformin medications, in 500, 850 or 1000 milligram doses, with every valid prescription. Customers in Warren can also take advantage of Tops’ $3.99 low-priced plan covering nearly 400 prescription medications.

Other improvements to the store include the addition of four popular self-checkout lanes. In an effort to reduce the store’s overall carbon footprint, new lighting was added throughout the store, including LED lamps in cold and frozen food cases.
