TOPS FRIENDLY MARKETS AND COMPASS HOUSE PARTNER TO CELEBRATE NATIONAL SAFE PLACE WEEK

WILLIAMSVILLE, N.Y. – Tops Friendly Markets will be celebrating National Safe Place week from March 20th – March 26th, in partnership with Compass House. National Safe Place week shines a spotlight on outreach prevention programs for youth in crisis. To kick-off National Safe Place week, a press conference and unveiling of the new Safe Place logo will be held on March 21st at the Tops Friendly Markets location at 3865 Union Road, Cheektowaga NY, at 10:30 a.m.

The Press conference will include a proclamation by Dr. Al Dirschberger, Commissioner of Erie County Department of Social Services and will feature comments from Executive Director of Compass House, Lisa Freeman. “As Compass House celebrates our 10th year as a Safe Place Program, we have been able to serve youth from all over Erie County who would not have been able to get to our shelter without the support of the safe place volunteers, specifically youth living in suburban and rural areas. We are happy to be part of National Safe Place week, so that youth in crisis can be made aware of the services they need at our runaway and homeless youth shelter,” said Lisa Freeman.

National Safe Place week seeks to increase awareness, provide opportunities for advocacy, build community support for Safe Place and licensed Safe Place agencies, and recognize individuals, organizations, and businesses involved in Safe Place.

At-risk youth that visit a Safe Place location, will be connected to The Compass House Shelter and referred to 50 other agencies in Western New York to find the best care for the individual youth and their family. Thirty-seven Tops Friendly Markets locations in Erie County are presently on board as Safe Place Sites.
