Renovations to the New Paltz, Rhinebeck, and Wappingers Falls stores included interior and exterior upgrades which will not only enhance the aesthetic appearance of the stores, but will also allow Tops the opportunity to offer its customers a wider selection of products, more savings, and more convenience. New landscaping and painting gave the exterior of the store a fresh appearance while inside new refrigeration and display cases, new décor, tiling, and additional seating in the café area, refreshed the interior.

Tops will continue to offer consumers the variety of choices they are accustomed to plus an expansion from what was previously offered including 20 varieties of Ace artisan breads, all which are non-GMO project verified, with organic options, and fresh baked products including rolls, breads, fresh made donuts, pastries, and a new expanded variety of cakes and dessert offerings, great for all occasions. Tops will also offer over 1,800 gluten free items including Bob's Red Mill brand gluten free baking mixes, Cucina Amore Pasta Sauce, and The Goody Girl Gluten Free Cookie line.

“Upon coming into the market, we listened to and adjusted to our customer’s needs. We are pleased to be able to offer a wide array of over 3,000 organic items as well as bring in new offerings from companies like Earthbound Farms,” said Jeff Cady director of produce/floral for Tops Friendly Markets. “We are also providing an enhanced variety of convenience items including fresh cut fruits and vegetables and Fresh Express Salads.” Additionally Tops prides itself in working with local growers and has maintained many of the relationships that existed prior to the acquisition in addition to aligning with new growers in the area.

Also in other Tops fresh departments, certified butchers cut and hand-pack 100% USDA Choice beef locally raised from traditional small family farmers. The wide selection and fine cuts of beef, pork, poultry, and exotic meats include options that are free from hormones, antibiotics, and animal by-products from brands such as Spring Crossing, Prairie Grove, Murray’s, Open Prairie, and Bartel’s.

Tops opened five stores in New York (Rhinebeck, New Paltz, Wappingers Falls, LaGrangeville, and Carmel) and one in Gardner, Massachusetts in late August 2016. Four of these stores were previously Stop & Shop stores and two, Hannaford stores. A grand opening for Gardner will take place on Thursday, November 17, 2016 at 10:00 am. A re-grand opening for the LaGrangeville location is set for mid-December while Carmel’s grand opening is slated for some time in 2017.
