Williamsville, NY… The Tops Friendly Markets Foundation has announced the recipients of its most recent grant distribution. The current recipients applied for grants during the Spring 2003 application period.

In all, the foundation presented $102,250 to organizations that support its mission of educating children and feeding those in need. The recipients also reflect the broad market area in which Tops does business, representing diverse communities throughout Western and Central New York, the Adirondacks and Northeast Ohio.

Recipients included:

 Aquarium of Niagara, Niagara Falls, NY  Cradle Beach Camp, Angola, NY  CURE Childhood Cancer Association, Rochester, NY  Explore and More…A Children’s Museum, East Aurora, NY  Gateway-Longview, Inc., Williamsville, NY  Genesee-Orleans Regional Arts Council, Batavia, NY  Genesee Senior Foundation, Batavia, NY  Lake Placid Association for Music, Drama & Arts, Lake Placid, NY

Also receiving grants:

 Ohio State University Extension, Cuyahoga County, Cleveland Heights, OH  Salvation Army of Greater Cleveland, Cleveland, OH  University Circle, Inc., Cleveland, OH  Upstate New York Transplant Services, Buffalo, NY  Youth Lifeline Foundation, Rochester, NY

In order to qualify, organizations had to be tax-exempt under IRS section 501(c)(3), had to support the foundation’s mission, and had to be requesting funding for a special project or program, not to cover administrative or operating expenses.

The Tops Friendly Markets Foundation was established in 2002, with the mission of supporting organizations and programs that educate children or feed the hungry in the areas served by Tops Friendly Markets. To date, the Foundation has provided $216,850 in grants to organizations throughout Upstate New York and Northeast Ohio.
