- Have guests wear either their favorite fascinator of sombrero to show if they are team Derby or team Mayo.

- Visit @topsfriendlymarkets on Facebook and have guests try out our name generator to name their own horse for your Derby de Mayo Party horse race.

- Serve guests margaritas and mint juleps – both signature drinks of these May 5th celebrations.

- Ironically both of these festivities have an animal as its main symbol – a burro for Cinco de Mayo and a horse for the Kentucky Derby so if you’re throwing a party where children will be present, why not play pin the tail on the donkey.

- Decorations having a burro piñata also does double duty as an equine symbol and a Mexican fiesta staple.

Kentucky Derby The Kentucky Derby is always held on the first Saturday in May at Churchill Downs in Louisville, Kentucky. The annual event draws both the elite, who sit in what is referred to as Millionaire’s row, as well as a younger more laid back observer, who celebrate the event from the grassy infield at a more affordable ticket price.
