WILLIAMSVILLE, N.Y. – Making a good first impression is paramount to landing your first job, but workforce preparedness coursework is typically not part of the curriculum taught in today’s classrooms. In light of this, Tops Friendly Markets has stepped up to the plate along with Say Yes Buffalo and Buffalo Employment Training Center to offer a Preparing for Success program.

This FREE three session program will teach area youth the skills necessary to put their best foot forward not only in preparing for an interview, but how to conduct themselves during an interview, and how to continue that momentum while on the job. Being offered Tuesday, June 26, Thursday, June 28, and Wednesday, July 11, 2018 the sessions run from 5:00-7:00 pm at the Frank E. Merriweather Library (1324 Jefferson Ave, Buffalo) and are open to individuals ages 16 years old and up.

“Every job is as valuable and significant as you and what you want it to be and often times while the enthusiasm is there to obtain a job, the skills to land that job are not,” said Cheryl Colbert, director, customer experience for Tops Friendly Markets. “Knowing the basics of professional presence, resume writing, and interview skills are key to landing that first job which can launch someone’s career. We’re excited to be able to team up with our partners which also include Council President Darius Pridgen who helped make this program possible, to empower our area youth to succeed at whatever they put their minds to.”

Session #1 – Preparing for the Interview – June 26 – The Key 3 P’s - This class will dive into politeness, professionalism, and personalization for your interview. Session #2 – The Interview – June 28 – This session will include time in a computer lab where students will transpose a handwritten resume onto the computer and walk away with their polished resume on a thumb drive for future use. Session #3 – Being Successful in the Workplace – July 11 – This final session focuses on how to be successful once you’ve landed the job. Topics include working well in a team environment and developing leadership skills. A DiSC® Profile analysis will also be included.
