TOPS TEAMS UP WITH NASCAR DRIVER ROSS CHASTAIN TO REMIND EVERYONE TO PROTECT YOUR MELON
What: Tops Friendly Markets is teaming up with NASCAR driver Ross Chastain and Watkins Glen this week to remind the public how important is it to “Protect Your Melon.” Ross Chastain will be on hand with his show car at the TOPS in Elmira (8/1/18) and Watkins Glen (8/2/18) to remind those young and old the value in making sure they buckle up and drive safely. Ross will also be available to sign autographs.

On Saturday, August 4, Georgia Watermelon Queen, Ashley Rodgers, will further enhance the Protect Your Melon campaign by distributing samples of fresh watermelon and speaking to the many benefits of eating watermelon like the added nutrients of vitamins C & A, as well as it is said eating watermelon may improve heart health, may lower inflammation and oxidative stress, and may help relieve muscle soreness among many other health benefits.

The Protect Your Melon campaign is proudly supported by the NYS Governor's Traffic Safety program.

About Ross Chastain - From 2011 - 2014, Ross Chastain competed in 44 NASCAR Camping World Truck Series races, earning a combined 5 top five and 12 top-ten finishes. In 2011, he won the late model championship in the season opening World Series of Asphalt Stock Car Racing and New Smyrna Speedway and raced an ASA South late model season with GMR Motorsports. Ross ran in the Florida FasTrucks FastKids division and Florida FasTrucks, accumulating more than 50 wins as he advanced through the ranks to the late model level, where he won the 2010 late model championship at Orlando Speedworld (Fla.) and the 2008 late model championship at Charlotte County Motorsports Park (Fla.). Ross began racing career at age 12. Ross is an eighth generation farmer and is a spokesperson for the National Watermelon industry.

About Ashley Rodgers - Ashley Rodgers, 2018 Georgia Watermelon Queen, is from Oglethorpe, Georgia. Ashley is a graduate of South Georgia Technical College, and is furthering her education at Middle Georgia State University, where is studying Business - Marketing. Some of her most notable honors are the Georgia Occupational Award of Leadership on the local and state level, Honor Graduate and several first placements in speaking competitions on state and national stages. Ashley enjoys spending time with her siblings, exploring new places and finding new ways to make a difference in others lives. She aspires to be the voice for those that who either can't speak up or need help along the way. She wants to be a motivational speaker and finds that being the Georgia Watermelon Queen offers her a platform unlike any other. Ashley is proud to take on the job of Miss Georgia Watermelon because she is able to represent a commodity that brings health and happiness to homes everywhere.
