WILLIAMSVILLE, N.Y. – For the past fourteen years, the term Little Brown Bags of Hope has become synonymous with Tops Friendly Markets and the annual Food for Families campaign. What began as a one day campaign in Buffalo, NY to benefit the Food Bank of WNY has since expanded across the entire chains footprint reaching into Rochester, and Syracuse, NY as well as Erie, PA working with nine food banks across all of the chains market and impacting more than 1.3 million people in need. Last year alone, and thanks to the extreme generosity of the Erie community, over 18,000 pounds of food were donated to Second Harvest Food and The Central Pennsylvania Food Bank, in the campaigns seventh season in the Erie market.

This year Tops is once again looking for the communities support to surpass its corporate goal of 2 million meals, giving hope to families in need this holiday season. The campaign officially kicked off November 18 and will run until December 15, 2018. Customers can easily purchase a Little Brown Bag of Hope paper icon at the register anytime they shop. At the register customers will be asked if they want to support the campaign by buying a $5 Breakfast, $10 Lunch, and/or $20 Dinner for someone in need in our community.

Virtual Little Brown Bags of Hope will also be available for purchase online by simply visiting so no matter what the weather, a donation can be made right from their phone, tablet, or desktop. Here customers can select what food bank they wish their donation to benefit.

Many locals love the tradition of bringing or purchasing their donation at the store and joining the Tops team, local media sponsors WRTS 103.7, WXBB 94.7, and WTWF 93.9, and volunteers for the one day food drive which will culminate with the Food for Families campaign on Friday, December 7, 2018 from 5:00 am – 9:00 pm. The traditional Little Brown Bags of Hope will be available, along with the new donation elements, at the following Tops Friendly Market locations:

1702 East 38th Street, Erie PA 1520 West 26th Street, Erie PA 712 W 38th Street, Erie PA

Joe Arthur, executive director of Central Pennsylvania Food Bank, said, “We are so thankful to Tops Friendly Markets for their annual Food for Families campaign. This additional support is very important because it helps us serve local families in need beyond the holiday season. And despite a fairly strong economy, we are still experiencing very high levels of community need, so we truly appreciate this help from Tops!”
