WILLIAMSVILLE, N.Y. – Tops Friendly Markets, a leading full-service grocery retailer in New York, northern Pennsylvania, and Vermont, is once again teaming up with the Boy Scouts for its annual Scouting for Food event. This year, the Five Rivers Council Boy Scouts of America is teaming up with three area Tops Friendly Markets locations to collect food for area food banks. Donations can be dropped off on April 13th from 10:00 am – 4:00 pm at the following Tops locations: • 35 Franklin Plaza, Dansville, NY • 3014 Elmira St., Sayre, PA • 136 Ennis Lane, Towanda, PA • 684 Elmira St., Troy, PA

Food donations needed include canned items such as vegetables, meat, chili, soups, juices, and baby items. Boxed or bagged meals and pastas are also welcome. Please nothing perishable, frozen, or in a glass container. Monetary donations cannot be accepted. Scouts will also be going door to door throughout the neighborhood to collect donations.

“At Tops we are committed to eradicating hunger and enhancing the quality of life for children through education and by way of this food drive, we are not only educating our children about the importance of giving back and helping those less fortunate, but we are engaging them as well with each donation they help collect through their commitment with the Boy Scouts,” said Kathy Sautter, public and media relations manager for Tops Friendly Markets.

Scouting for Food is Five Rivers Council’s largest service project involving thousands of Scouts and volunteers in the southern tier of New York and northern tier of Pennsylvania. Since 2000, Scouts in Five Rivers Council, their families and volunteer leaders have collected over 1 million food items for our neighbors living with hunger. The council’s goal this year is 150,000, non-perishable food items.
