TOPS MARKETS DECREASING CARBON FOOTPRINT ONE LIGHTBULB AT A TIME | |
WILLIAMSVILLE, N.Y. – As part of an ongoing effort to reduce its carbon footprint, Tops Friendly Markets ongoing commitment to sustainability is met with enthusiasm and resolve every day, as the company works to ensure it leaves the community—and our planet—better for the next generation. One of many examples of Tops’ efforts kicked into high gear in 2018 when Tops began upgrading interior lighting to LED lights/fixtures thru a program with Lime Energy Services in several of its stores throughout the chain as well as in its corporate offices and mailroom. These retro-fittings save over 1,196,327 kWh annually. As Tops continues to work on remodeling stores throughout its footprint, LED lighting will be used to ensure additional savings. Additionally Tops recycles over 641 tons of plastic bags and film wrap and over 20,000 tons of cardboard annually reducing its environmental impact. At Tops, social responsibility and sustainability have always been at the core of its mission, upholding standards that ensure the company reduces environmental waste and energy consumption while providing its customers with sustainably sourced, high-quality products. From ensuring that its stores provide earth friendly products from manufacturers like Mrs. Meyer’s Dish Soap, Tom’s of Main Deodorant, and Method Hand Soaps, but also making sure its own line of Full Circle products offer customers a kinder way to clean. From non-toxic, plant based items that are free from dyes and fragrances, Tops has your solution to making your household resolution to lead a more environmentally conscious lifestyle. “Tops understands that sustainability is measured beyond its responsible business practices that preserve and protect our environment,” said Kathy Sautter, public and media relations manager for Tops. “Sustainability includes supporting programs that seek to eradicate hunger and disease; promote the education of our youth; comfort those in need; and help our communities flourish. More than our duty, these efforts are a part of Tops culture, fueled by the dedication of more than 14,000 associates.” Tops has donated more than 44.8+ million meals to the communities they serve, raised over $1,885,000 to help fight cancer, donated over $889,500 to local schools through its Tops in Education program, and raised over $9,645,000 to support children’s hospitals. All of these efforts are made ensuring our communities are left a better place, improving the lives of children and helping one neighbor at a time through food donations, tireless fundraising and outreach programs.
